My boys

Nathan's experience at Kindergarten has been good. He started out great and then in week 2-3 he had a few days of not wanting to go, though it was just in conversation, not a tantrum. Now we are finishing up month 2 and he's doing so good! He really likes his teachers, Andrea and Ruth. They've both commented on how well he's adjusting and how his manners are so good. Ahhh... music to a mommy's ears. His potty training is complete for the most part. He has no problems at school whatsoever and at home the only thing we're still perfecting is making it in time for #2 (which is not an everyday problem, just a few times a week). Bless his heart he tries so hard... but sometimes playing is more consuming and then it's too late.

Micah is full of life! He is Nathan's shadow, side-kick, toy, friend, wrestle partner, and annoying brother at times ;) When Nathan reacts to a song, cartoon, or makes a big gesture of some sort, Micah almost immediately tries to copy him. He's into hats at the moment and wants a big 'awwww' from me every time he changes hats. He is a good listener. He understands far more than we ever gave Nathan credit at this age. He is teaching himself to go up and down stairs and doing quite well at it. He loves music and bops his head at the slightest bit of a rhythm.

Both boys are such a joy. I'm looking forward to this summer when they can spend more time outside. They play so well together and I know that getting to run and play will be so good for them (and me - haha).

We're still waiting to have the boys visas in hand, but we're hoping they come this week. The important thing is that Danny & I have ours, but it'd be nice to have this all done.

Don't forget to thank God for the little moments... or rays of sunshine!

Little Rays of Sunshine

For those of you not from the Philippines... sorry, but this post will mean nothing to you. Maybe you can just appreciate what I'm going to say... just like Danny.

I was grocery shopping this past week and had to stop at an oriental store to buy a few things I can't get anywhere else for a recipe I wanted to make. My eyes were skimming the shelves for anything I might recognize from the Philippines. This place usually carries more Chinese stuff and I've only ever seen some dried fruit stuff from the P.I. (Philippine Islands) and not really my taste. But then I saw them. Jack & Jill CHIPPY'S. I nearly pinched myself! I was so ecstatic and could hardly contain myself. I hollered for Nathan to come to where I was and showed him. He said, "Can we buy chips, Mom?". I began telling him how these were one of mommy's favorite chips when she was a little kid growing up in the Philippines. He thought that was cool. There were 5 bags and I bought them all! They were only .69 euro cents a bag. I called Danny and told him. He thought I was crazy for my level of excitement over a bag of chips.

When I got home I called my mom & dad. They understood.

This summer will mark 11 yrs. since I graduated high school from Faith Academy ( one of the greatest experiences of my life) and moved away from a country I called home since I was nearly 2 yrs. old. Before Danny & I married I took him to the Philippines to see where I grew up. There are things about me he needed to see in order to understand. For example, my love for rice for every meal (if he'd let me), soy sauce, sampagita scents, the way I accidentally throw a Tagalog word in my sentences and don't notice it till he points it out, tsinelas (flip-flops), adobo, pancit, Baguio City, old friends, jeepney's, tricycles, the way you're never really late, the beaches, etc.. Ahhh, I'm getting homesick. We'd like to make a visit one day with my brothers and their families and mom & dad. I think it would be a wonderful trip!

Ok, so here's a picture of my great find. It was just a small thing... but it made my week... month!

Thank you, Lord... you're too good. You know how to make each of Your children's days special-- with little insignificant rays of sunshine, just for me.

Sweet moments

Just some sweet moments of my boys. They're growing up so fast and thankfully--together. I'm so blessed!

Happy Birthday, Danny!

Today the love of my life turned the big 3-0. Yup, he's no longer in his 'twenties'. This morning began with me getting up and taking Nathan to school (usually Danny takes and I pick up-- you do NOT want to see me that early in the a.m). Nathan got up and saw Danny awake and says that we forgot to do our plan!

The plan: run and jump on Daddy in bed and tell him 'Happy Birthday' and then give him his birthday whoopin'. So Danny had to pretend to be asleep for Nathan to do his 'plan'. It was hilarious! Micah woke up and could've cared less. That's my boy. Nathan is way to happy in the morning to be my child ;)

We took Danny out to lunch and picked out his gift...a game for his PSP (thanks again, Zach!!). The rest of the afternoon was a normal 'work' day for us. Tonight I made one of his favorite dinners, Chinese Cashew Chicken. Very delicious. Nathan set the table and insisted that we use the Elmo table cloth (we used it for Micah's 1st birthday so I guess he thinks it's the official birthday decor). Tomorrow night we're having all our friends that we've met in Austria over to celebrate this big milestone.

A few weeks ago we knew we had received our visas, but were waiting on new cards. The boys had to have updated pictures because they've done the most changing in a year (Micah was a month old on his old one) so it took a bit to get them actually in our hands. But today-- WE HAVE OUR VISAS IN HAND! Ok, Danny & I do... the boys cards are still on there way. But still--- great news!

I'll post some new pics soon. Just been really, really busy. We had house guests for 12 days or so and they moved out this week. Nathan had a few school activities that required my attention, Danny's birthday, Bible studies, a friend had her first baby and has asked me to visit a few times just in this week, etc. All in all a crazy, but wonderfully busy week. God's good!

That's How We Say it in German

As a family, we have become rather dependent upon our evening routine. After we eat, either Krista or I will bathe the boys, while the other one clears the table and does the dishes. Once the boys have finished bathing, they brush their teeth and get into their pj's (pajamas). Then, Nathan heads to bed (usually accompanied by Dad) to say his prayers and watch a short video before calling it a night. At the same time Micah gets an evening bottle in living room (normally while laying in Mommy's arms), where he usually falls asleep.

After Nate's video is over, we usually have to bargain with him in order to turn off the TV. It goes something like this, "If we turn off the TV we promise to turn on the hallway lamp so it won't be so dark in your room." That usually makes him happy and he normally falls asleep soon afterwards, at which time we switch off the lamp in the hall.

Last night however, Mom turned off the lamp before Nate was completely out. Nathan called out, so I went to see what was wrong. As I entered his room, he told me what was wrong. "Oh, did Mom accidently turn off the LIGHT," I asked, as I walked back out of his room and turned the lamp on again. While I was informing Krista that Nate was not yet asleep, he called out to me again. I went back to his room to see what he needed. He explained to me, "Dad, it's called a LAMP! That's how we say it in German!" Krista and I both had a good laugh over it. He's not far off, though. The German word for lamp is "Lampe." Have a good one!
